Straight answers about how MGVM assesses and tracks young footballers — what it measures, what the benchmarks do and do not mean, how youth data is handled, and what it costs.

01How do you assess a young football player objectively?

Assess across five domains rather than one overall impression: Technical, Physical, Tactical, Mental and Behavioural. Scoring each separately stops a quick, confident player being rated highly on everything, and it shows precisely where a player is strong and what to work on next.

02How long should a player assessment take?

A few minutes per player. MGVM lets a coach describe what they saw — by voice or a few taps — and turns those observations into scored assessments rather than a long form to fill in. The aim is that assessing a squad fits inside a normal training session.

03Can you benchmark a youth player against professionals?

Not directly, and be sceptical of tools that claim to. MGVM's benchmark dataset is senior-professional, so it is not a fair yardstick for a 13-year-old. Youth players are measured against their own trend over time and against their squad, which is what actually shows development.

04What data are MGVM's benchmarks built on?

Over 100 million performance data points covering more than 28,000 players across 142 competitions in around 60 countries, drawn from roughly 85,000 matches. That dataset provides professional-level context and research — it is not used to score children against professionals.

05What is the difference between MGVM and a team management app?

Team management apps handle scheduling, availability, payments and parent communication. MGVM does none of that. It focuses on player development: assessing ability across five domains, tracking progress through a season, and showing what to work on next. Many clubs run both alongside each other.

06How is youth player data protected?

Records are private to the coach who creates them. Before a young player's record is created, the coach or club confirms they hold parental or guardian consent, and this is enforced in the product. A parent can request removal at any time, and coaches can permanently delete their account and data.

07Do I need cameras or special equipment?

No. MGVM works from a coach's own observations, with no hardware required. Optional capture hardware — camera, microphone and wearable data — can add match and training detail for clubs that want it, but the core assessment and tracking needs nothing but a coach watching a session.

08What does MGVM cost?

A$10 for the first four weeks, then A$39 per month, and you can cancel at any time. Billing is handled on the web. There are no per-player fees, so the price is the same whether you are tracking one team or a larger squad.

09Who is MGVM for?

Grassroots and academy football coaches who want to develop players on evidence rather than opinion, and who want a defensible record of why a player progressed or did not. It is built for the coach running real sessions, not for a club analyst with a data team.

10Can MGVM tell me which players will make it?

No, and it does not try to. It shows where a player currently stands across five domains and whether they are improving. Reliably predicting which children become professionals is not possible, and MGVM is a decision-support tool for coaches — it does not make selection decisions.
